Locating Themselves: Black Womxn’s Geographies of Professional Socialization

This paper presents findings from a larger study that explored the relationship among Black graduate womxn’s (BGW) geospatial and social locations in their academic organizations, professional socialization processes, abilities to access desired career pipelines upon program completion. More specifically, it is concerned with manners which womxn (co-)construct geographies for growth (a) retain womxnhood at centers – doing so, (b) challenge academia’s dominant discourses about students’ processes outcomes. The took place highly ranked college of education (“the College”), regarded predominately-white public research institution American Midwest (“Midwest”). I conducted using bricolage approach. Critical Race Theory, postcolonialism, ideas everyday resistance informed paper’s methodology. illustrate theorizing created as sites resistance, liberatory imaginations, against anti-Black colonial violence academy. They also offer implications how academia must evolve its understandings, structures, locations, practices studies be more responsive evolving needs diversifying population learners professionals.
